| The Fort Leonard Wood chapter of the Association of the United States Army announces the expansion of its Wounded Warrior Fund. The fund is now a region wide effort that includes Phelps for the Fort to the east, Friends of the Fort to the west, and the Committee of 50 directly outside the installation. The goal is to financially help soldiers and their families in times of need. This need can come in a variety of ways including combat injuries, training injuries and personal crisis. “It’s great to see our region come together under this united effort,” said Steve Ehrhardt, the AUSA chapter president. It’s another example of our communities embracing Fort Leonard Wood and the soldiers and families who serve.” The FLW AUSA Chapter Wounded Warrior Fund was established in May of 2000 when John Mahaffey of Springfield and Col. Ed Owsley of Rolla designed the program and provided the start-up money. A small committee of community leaders makes decisions on fund requests and responds within 24 hours. Our local AUSA chapter will administer the plan and allocate the funds. To date in 2007, seven requests have been granted totaling over $4,000 given to Soldiers and their families. | Donations to the fund can be sent to AUSA, P.O. Box 410, Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473. |
